To be considered for this role you will need:

  • Ability to support people with additional and complex needs and the ability to manage behaviour that may challenge is essential
  • A flexible approach to work and a 'can do attitude'
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • A willingness/ability to complete the level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent

The Role

To provide advice, assistance and support to young people throughout the night. To attend to their practical, physical, emotional, behavioural and educational needs and to safeguard their welfare at all times. To act as an appropriate role model and to work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential. To undertake household tasks, taking responsibility of all household domestic duties and following administrative procedures. To maintain a safe, healthy and homely environment at all times to meet Ofsted’s Quality Standards.

Other duties include:

  • Remaining awake throughout the night to support the young people as required
  • Carrying out and recording regular checks on the young people throughout the night
  • Responding appropriately, based on regulations, policy and guidance, to any incidents which occur on the night shift
  • Ensuring that each young person’s care plan and risk assessments are followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs
  • Working in line with behaviour management plans for each young person
  • Undertaking full personal care duties
  • Supporting young people with their health needs as required which may include the administration of medication, peg feeding, moving and handling
  • Undertaking administrative duties associated with the care of the young people, completing and maintaining accurate records and documentation and providing written reports
  • Working positively with colleagues, families and external organisations and professionals
  • Attending to practical matters in relation to childcare, undertaking household tasks and domestic duties (including cooking, cleaning, laundry, budgeting etc.)
  • Performing security check including fire checks
  • Participating in learning and development opportunities as required, maintaining an up to date training profile.
